Amid growing water scarcity across the globe, El Puerto de Liverpool knows how important conscious stewardship of the precious resources is. We have begun to develop a series of strategies and policies that will minimize our impact on water resources, an expression of our firm commitment and sense of responsibility that makes comprehensive water management an essential part of our core activities.
One of the main problems involving this resource is water stress, defined as a situation in which the demand for water exceeds the amount available.
In 2024, El Puerto de Liverpool abstracted a total of 2,187.21 Megaliters of water from areas with some degree of water stress, according to the AQUEDUCT Water Risk Atlas. The distribution of water withdrawal ranged from 15.1% in low water stress areas to 18.1% in high water stress areas and 56.3% in extremely high water stress areas with respect to the total volume withdrawn. El Puerto is already working on various strategies and goals for reducing our impact on this resource.
El Puerto de Liverpool aims to achieve a water balance by the year 2040. Our current efforts are aimed at:
In the pursuit of achieving these objectives, we currently operate both our own and third-party Wastewater Treatment Plants (WWTPs), which has allowed us to reuse 251,000 m³ of treated water. 21% of our water consumption is treated and reused for toilets, irrigation of green areas, and parking lot cleaning.
Likewise, we have continued implementing rainwater harvesting systems at various business locations, making use of approximately 3,200 m³ of collected rainwater.
